Fixed, eh?
People always say that this match fixing thing destroys the 'spirit' of the game. But according to me, 60% of these people watch IPL mainly for the cheerleaders. People love the games which go to the last ball but once they read that 'IPL is fixed' the next morning in the papers they always end up saying 'Saala maine to kal hi bola tha'. What's the point of all this? I mean, even if the match is fixed, it should have no effect on the audience (as long as the result is not leaked *spoiler alert*).
The people who should be affected, are the freaking cricket authorities. What I'm implying that if the cricket has to be fixed then it MUST be under the BCCI or whichever association is concerned. I'm not in support of cricket (or other popular sports) being rigged to its core but I also see no reason why I should be against it. Until and unless we can make sure that no illegal authorities are involved with the process, I don't see a reason why anyone should have a problem with it. The audience is in for the entertainment and their sole job is to provide the audience with it. On the other hand the sole job of the audience is to enjoy what they are being shown, right na?.
A magic show can be taken as a strangely apt example. Everybody (mostly) loves the show in spite of knowing that the person in front of you is going to take home his fees by making you believe in something which is not real (diplomatic way of saying making a humongous arse of you).
In the end, I stand my ground by saying that if the sport can provide you with entertainment, one shouldn't care about its making. I'll be back with views on some other random issue. Till then, ciao.
rightly said....wat audience need is entertainment(dats wat IPL is all abt n dats wat d people pay fr..)....n i guess entertainment wil be more if d whole tournament is scripted rather than being played in true spirits,........wat say??
ReplyDeleteexactly my point! if we are the audience, we should act like the audience!
DeleteOne difference in IPL and tv soaps/magic shows/etc. is that the people know about the 'fixing' in the latter case. People go to magic shows wanting to be made into humongous arses. The people are not reacting to the IPL being fixed, but reacting to it being fixed while being given the impression that it is not. Although this doesn't make any physical difference to the entertainment quality of the IPL, it affects people mentally, and they feel cheated. If the IPL is to be scripted, let it be known to all. Who'd say anything then?
ReplyDeleteYou've got some fresh views out there, though. Keep it up!
My point was about why should people care about it being fixed. An audience should act as an audience.
ReplyDeleteReally appreciate the comment though. Thanks
thats certainly a very interesting point of view, one that oi dnot agree to nevertheless!
ReplyDeletewe have serious cricket fanatics in the country whose love for cricket goes certainly beyond entertainment. and for the others too, i think knowing that the match is fixed would spoil the game, and the spirit of watching the game. i know i for once dont enjoy ipl cos of the rumours of these matches being fixed. i njoi football though i m not tht farmiliar with the game as other football fanatics wud be. but i hvnt heard rumours of these matches being rigged and enjoi the results.
but i guess the trp ratings of ipl are proof enf tht such matches are for pure entertainment. and y nt? they r nt countries playing against each other. it is indeed money, power in play. so i guess an ipl season being fixed might as well be justified. bit i dnt see a wolrd cup that is foxed being njoied at all. after all a world cup is what they call 'pride of india'.
personally i wudnt wnt matches to b fixed. i tke pride in knowing tht the match was won by a worthy team.
but loved ur point of view. damn interesting! :D
I do see ur point about sport fanatics wanting the better team to win but what I mean to portray here is that we as viewers shouldn't discriminate our opinion of what is being shown on the basis of it being rigged. Thanks for your thoughts sanuri! Really appreciate it!
